The North East North Cumbria (NENC) SPF was set up by employers, trade unions and the NHS Employers North engagement team.

Priorities for 2024/25

The priority for the NENC SPF is the implementation of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan (LTWP), under its three key aims:

  • Train - with a focus on supply, training and education.
  • Retain - with a focus on staff health and wellbeing; equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI); culture; the NHS Staff Survey; violence reduction and sexual safety.
  • Reform - with a focus on new roles, new ways of working, education expansion and working as anchors/systems.

Achievements for 2023/24

  • We had a successful North SPF conference, which focused on health inequalities and EDI, show casing best practice (LGTBQ+/fertility and deaf awareness).
  • We had partnership discussions on the NHS LTWP, with an overview from the regional assistant director of strategic workforce planning, supporting understanding on workforce growth and supply.
  • We had discussions on sexual safety, sharing responses and early work, preparing to support the NENC collective campaign #it’s never ok to...
  • We reviewed the format of our meetings, shaping agendas around the three themes of the plan and increasing attendance.
