Helpforce and NHS trade unions have published a volunteering charter.
The charter shows how volunteers can make a valuable contribution to the NHS in England, without undermining paid staff or affecting patient safety.
There are an estimated 78,000 volunteers providing help and support to patients in hospitals across England and this number is expected to double by 2023. The charter’s aim is to ensure that volunteers are given guidance about their roles and safeguarded against their use as cheap substitutes for trained health staff.
